The Muslim side has received a major blow from the Supreme Court in the matter of worship in the Vyas basement of Gyanvapi complex in Varanasi. CJI D.Y. A bench led by Chandrachud on Monday refused to ban the puja, saying the entry of the basement is from the south, while that of the mosque is from the north. Both do not affect each other. Worship and namaz should continue at their respective places.

Court also refuses to ban survey of Bhojshala.
Anjuman Arrangements Masjid Committee had filed a petition against the decision of Allahabad High Court. The High Court had upheld the decision of the Varanasi District Court, in which the Hindu side was allowed to worship in the Vyas basement. During the hearing, the bench asked whether there was only one way to go to the basement and the mosque?

Muslim side's lawyer Ahmadi said that the paths of both are different. The bench said, in such a situation, we believe that there will be no hindrance in both the worship methods. Varanasi District Court, in its January 31 order, had allowed the priests to worship the idols in the Vyas basement. The basement was opened for devotees at midnight on 1 February.

Refusal to ban survey of Bhojshala
The Supreme Court on Monday refused to stay the ASI survey in Madhya Pradesh's Bhojshala, but said that without its permission no action would be taken on the basis of the ASI report. The court said that there should not be any physical excavation etc. which would change the religious character.

On the petition of the Muslim side, the court has issued a notice and sought a reply from the Hindu side within four weeks. The Muslim side has challenged the March 11 decision of the Indore Bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court. The High Court had ordered an ASI survey.
