Government changed the law in Kashmir, gave the Lieutenant Governor powers like Delhi's LG
Jammu and Kashmir: Amid speculations of holding assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the Home Ministry has changed the law in Jammu and Kashmir. The central government has amended the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019. The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir has been given powers like the LG of Delhi.
This has given more powers to the Lieutenant Governor in matters of transfers and postings of All India Service officers, police as well as appointment of judicial officers.
Central government changed the law in Kashmir
The central government issued a notification amending the 'Rules of Transaction of Business' under the Act. The notification said, the President makes the following rules to further amend the Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory Government's Rules of Business, 2019.
These rules may be called the Transaction of Business of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory (Second Amendment) Rules 2024. They will come into force from the date of publication in the official gazette.
Now LG will be the super boss, got powers like Delhi
The amendment will give more powers to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir in matters of transfer and posting of All India Service officers like IAS and IPS, police, law and order as well as appointment of judicial officers.
