19 websites, 10 apps and 57 social media handles of OTT platforms have been blocked across the country.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has taken major action regarding objectionable content. After several warnings from Union Minister Anurag Thakur, 18 OTT platforms have been blocked for objectionable content. 19 websites, 10 apps and 57 social media handles of OTT platforms have also been banned across the country.
The content, which violates sections 67 and 67A of the IT Act, section 292 of the IPC and section 4 of the Objectionable Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986, includes topics such as teacher-student relationships and incestuous family relationships.
The content in question has been found to violate several laws including the IT Act, the Indian Penal Code and the Indecent Representation of Women Act. The move underlines the government's commitment to regulate content and maintain standards of decency and legality in the digital sector.
